I write about what is happening to human contact in the contemporary world — to families, to workplaces, to childhood, to the broader social architecture our nervous systems were built to operate inside. The argument is that the substrate of human life has been more substantially dismantled than the broader culture has yet recognized, and that designing for its restoration is possible at every scale where intervention is available. The framework I have developed for this work is called Durable Contact Theory.
